sony ericsson S500i

The Sony Ericsson S500i is a mid-range fashion slider that packs in plenty of features in a compact design and is relatively non-Walkman version of the W580, although in truth, there is little to choose between the 2-side of the music functions.

Measuring only 14 mm thick and weighing reduced to 94 grams, the compact S500i is certainly enough to compete with Samsung in the arena of slim-sliding, but it can renew the undisputed masters of the compact sliding phones.

The first signs are good, thanks to design elegant and opulent variety of color schemes on offer; Mysterious Green, Yellow Spring; Contrasted Copper and Purple Ice is what is currently available, while a pink version is certainly going to follow at some point if the sales numbers justify their inclusion.

The main concern on controls and ergonomics is the keyboard which is revealed when the opposite is slid upwards. The keys themselves are first a little flat to be as responsive as they should have been. More concerning however is the construction quality of the keys on the alphanumeric keypad. There have been many users report the keys themselves cracked through the middle at any point between the first 2 weeks and 6 months of purchase.

Although I have not had this happen to me at any point, which is related to the amount of consumers who have reported that this issue does not seem to be limited to that which is used as color paint some have pointed out, but a large drawing failed keys Sony Ericsson themselves, which have recognized a common problem.

The central D-pad is, of course, following the trend of phones with a circular primary control that do not work the same way as a scroll-wheel. There is a huge amount to say related to the functionality of this monitoring different to say that it feels sufficiently solid, without being spectacular or innovative.

For it is very compact handset, the S500i has a proportionate generously TFT screen, which measures 2 inch corner-to-corner and displays images at 256K colors, making it about average.

The 2 Megapixel digital camera offers average quality images that do not disappoint, but then again are not particularly impressive either, which makes it hard to recommend buying the phone on that basis. This is undoubtedly due to the absence of both autofocus and flash, it does limit the usability somewhat, but the interface is as good as ever from Sony Ericsson.

Overall, the S500i is an average handset that really does not provide any benefits when compared with his brother, Walkman, the W580. The question on the cracks on the keyboard is becoming well known in the consumer forums and is clearly an issue widely recognised, but despite this, he does what he sets out to do relatively well, just well-perhaps not enough to make it lo Valley recommendation.
