The latest technology has allowed for Bluetooth has a fair value of revolution in how devices communicate with each other. It is a technology that is already in use since 1999, but now is being put to widespread use. This amazing piece of technology allows the user to connect the PDA, cell phone, MP3 player and almost any digital device, which supports the function, to communicate with each other. This concept of having all their Bluetooth devices enabled so that they can exchange information is being called PAN or Personal Area Network.
Like a 802.11 Bluetooth wireless technology also uses radio signals to create band, but does not require a receiver to be plugged in the USB port of your computer. The range of Bluetooth is much better than this erstwhile technology and is allowing people to go further in a world devoid of entangled wires.
Developed and designed to be a low cost, safe and easy to use technology, Bluetooth is available in two classes: Class 1, Class 2. Class 1 is relatively rare one and can detect other Bluetooth devices in the range of 100 metres. Class 2 is the most common and used one and allows up access to a range of only 10 meters.
A Bluetooth enabled computer has a receiver installed inside and can connect simultaneously with up to 7 of other devices. Although most computers being manufactured today (and definitely all Apple Macs) have a receiver Bluetooth installed, if your computer is older does not have one, which can easily be done to accept Bluetooth and send messages. This can be done via a USB or Bluetooth adapter to install it internally. Also if it is a notebook that needs to be Bluetooth enabled and you have a spare PCMCIA slot, you can use a Bluetooth card for going with Bluetooth.
The ease of use, accessibility and instant compatibility can now download all data on the addresses, contacts, things to do and notes on the computer in a jiffy. Downloading images from digital cameras, mp3 audio files from the mp3 player and send a command to print the printer have now become much easier, without the need for long and messy looking twisted cables. It is also being used in other areas than computers. Headsets for handsfree cell phones are today hands free and wire free. Car phones can use the same concept to allow talking on the phone and driving a matter seamless. The list of Bluetooth devices that can be used to include cordless phones, faxes, phones and video.
As always people have discovered new applications for the latest technology. One of these uses is called Bluejacking. In Bluejacking people can send messages from their mobile phones to other cell phones in the vicinity without access to the network of providers of mobile services. The first time that the message was sent using Bluejacking was Buy Ericsson. Although it appears to have limited use that can be a fun thing to do with friends. Bluecasting is another use that has captured the interest of advertisers. In the process, Bluetooth enabled posters and signalling can be used to send messages relevant and appropriate to all Bluetooth devices in the area. This method of advertising is extremely relevant to the specific location of the food service businesses such as restaurants, shopping centers and the like.
